Splice Kits

Measure total belt thickness, including top and bottom covers. Select fastener size based on your measured thickness within the specified range.

Belts at the upper end of a thickness range may require careful evaluation of tooth penetration depth. Consult installation instructions for skiving requirements on thick-cover belts.

Match fastener PIW rating to your belt's rated strength, measured in pounds per inch of width. Fastener rating must equal or exceed belt rating to prevent splice failure under operating tension.

Bolt splice systems provide ratings from 150–700 PIW, covering light aggregate through heavy mining applications. Bolt hinged systems provide ratings from 190–300 PIW for small pulley applications. Never install fasteners with lower PIW ratings than your belt specification.

Bolt splice systems require specific minimum pulley diameters depending on fastener size and system type. Installing fasteners on smaller pulleys causes excessive flexing stress, premature fatigue, and splice failure.

Solid plate systems require minimum pulley diameters from 12"–48", while hinged systems accommodate smaller pulleys from 6"–9". Measure the smallest pulley diameter in your system and verify compatibility with your selected fastener size. Replace undersized pulleys before installing bolt splices if necessary.

Select fastener material based on your operating environment:

• Fine materials, including sand, cement, or grain, require standard AISI steel or abrasion-resistant materials with sift-free design. Rubber-covered top plates provide additional impact protection at loading zones while maintaining belt cleaner compatibility.

• Corrosive environments, including chemical exposure, salt handling, or continuous washdown operations, require corrosion-resistant stainless steel materials to prevent premature fastener degradation.

• Explosive dust environments, including grain elevators, flour mills, coal handling, and sawmills, require spark-resistant materials to eliminate ignition sources from metal-to-metal contact.

• Food processing, pharmaceutical, and applications near magnetic separation equipment benefit from non-magnetic stainless steel to prevent magnetic attraction and maintain sanitation standards.

Bolt splice installation requires template-guided hole preparation followed by fastener and bolt installation using hand tools or power tools. Power tools reduce installation time by approximately 50% compared to hand tool installation.

For frequent splice installations or production maintenance environments, power tool investment provides faster turnaround and more consistent installation quality. Single or infrequent installations work effectively with hand tool methods.
