Transfer stations and the future of waste management

The US waste management industry is expected to grow by 4.5 percent through 2030. As recycling efforts and biofuel initiatives accelerate, transfer stations are gaining popularity for optimizing logistics and pre-sorting recyclable materials.

Conveyors assist in essential transfer station functions, such as:

  • Loading and unloading

  • Material movement

With our long record of industry success, Fluent Conveyors is excited to help shape the future of transfer station and waste management operations.

Transfer stations and the future of waste management

Quality conveyors made in the USA

Our conveyors enhance the productivity of transfer stations while reducing costs and manual labor. Each conveyor is engineered and American-made to the following quality standards:

Extensively tested and inspected prior to shipment

Premium bearings sized for L10 life ratings, made in USA

Baldor, Leeson, Toshiba TEFC motors selected for 24/7 operation

All systems fabricated by certified welders for structural integrity.

3/16" and 1/4" thick structural steel frames to prevent flexing

All hardware is grade 8 for maximum strength

Painted with industrial-grade powder coating for durability

Designed for simple maintenance access and component serviceability

Dodge, Nord, and SEW drives matched to torque requirements.

Goodyear, Flexco belt options resistant to rips, tears, and impacts

ASTM A36 steel for fabrication per structural code

25-35 pound rail track to withstand heavy loads

Assembled with precision components such as cold-rolled steel shafts and flame-hardened sprockets

Formed using heavy duty steel plate, rectangular tubing, and structural channel

Our conveyors provide durability, strength, and lasting performance for transfer stations and all other applications. For a custom material handling solution, contact our engineering team.

What are the different types of transfer stations?

Transfer stations come in different configurations to suit specific application requirements:

    Direct to tip

    Direct to tip

A raised tip allows incoming garbage trucks to dump trash directly into transport trucks, requiring minimal equipment and storage space.

    Surge pit

    Surge pit

Waste is pushed into a storage pit that can be combined with a compactor. Surge pit stations offer extra space for stations that receive trash in waves or surges.

    Push pit

    Push pit

The tip is elevated so excavators can push trash off a ledge and into the transport vehicle.

    Lift and load

    Lift and load

The floor is partially elevated so the top of the incoming transport vehicle is visible to the excavator. The excavator scoops and dumps trash into the transport vehicle.

Trash volume, waste composition, space constraints, and local regulations determine which type of transfer station is best.
