Cleated belts suit conveyor applications where a smooth belt can't maintain reliable material control:
Incline conveying of bulk materials
Infeed applications where rollback would cause bridging or overloading
Wherever loose or irregular material would migrate laterally or slip backward under load

Vulcanized into the belt carcass during manufacturing. With no mechanical joint at the base, this is the best choice for high-load, high-cycle applications, abrasive materials, and anywhere cleat detachment would cause downstream damage or process interruption. Chevron and herringbone patterns are produced this way as standard.

Bolted or bonded onto the belt after manufacturing. Extruded rubber and steel cleat styles use a concave base that seats against the belt. Worn or damaged cleats can be swapped in the field without pulling the belt. Mechanical cleats simplify maintenance and allow for quick field repairs.

Cleat base cracking and delamination are often a symptom of the wrong attachment method for the application, not a belt quality issue.
The primary selection variables are profile, height, and spacing.
Chevron cleats form enclosed pockets that retain bulk material and resist lateral movement.
Herringbone cleats share the same v-geometry but leave the top open, releasing material more cleanly at discharge. They are the right choice for wet or sticky materials prone to carryback.
Plain, flat cleats create consistent cross-belt partitions for metering applications. They are standard on tumble-back conveyors, where cleat spacing self-regulates feed rate without external controls.
I-cleats and beefy cleats distribute high normal forces across more rubber, reducing deformation under heavy aggregate, scrap metal, and dense recyclables.
Scoop cleats are specified in mining and aggregate applications where the cleat needs to penetrate loose material on loading.
Cleat height scales with incline angle and material size: 1"–2" for granular and light-bulk applications, 4"–8" for steep inclines and large aggregate. Taller cleats require adequate return path clearance and are not compatible with conveyors that have tight return geometry.
Corrugated sidewall belts add vulcanized corrugated walls along the belt edges, closing off cleat pockets and allowing near-vertical conveying angles beyond the range of standard cleated belting.
Center support ribs are available for long-span incline conveyors where the belt sags between support points.
Oil-resistant, food-grade (FDA/USDA), flame-retardant, heat-resistant, and chemical-resistant compounds are available across most cleat profiles. Specify the operating environment at inquiry, and we'll confirm compound compatibility.
