Measure your belt thickness, including top and bottom covers. Match the measurement to the kit's stated belt thickness range. Thicker belts require heavier-duty fastening systems with greater penetration depth.
Standard belt thickness ranges:
Light-duty: 1/16"–1/4" (staple, alligator systems)
Medium-duty: 3/16"–1/2" (clipper, rivet hinged systems)
Heavy-duty: 3/16"–1 3/16" (bolt solid plate, rivet solid plate systems)
Verify the smallest pulley in your conveyor meets the fastener's minimum pulley diameter specification. Undersized pulleys cause excessive hinge stress, premature fastener wear, and potential splice failure.
Use the kit's minimum pulley diameter as a hard filter. Never install fasteners on smaller pulleys than specified.
Match the fastener rating to your conveyor belt's rated strength, measured in pounds per inch of width (PIW). The fastener rating should equal or exceed the belt rating to prevent splice failure under load.
Common rating ranges:
Light-duty: 25–200 PIW
Medium-duty: 150–350 PIW
Heavy-duty: 350–620 PIW
Select fasteners compatible with your belt construction:
Rubber-plied belts: Rivet hinged, bolt solid plate, alligator systems
PVC solid woven belts: Rivet hinged, staple systems
Fabric-reinforced belts: Clipper, alligator, staple systems
Steel cord belts: Specialized steel cord fastening systems
Consider operating environment and compliance requirements:
Abrasion resistance: Bolt and rivet systems with hardened components
Oil resistance: Stainless steel fasteners for oil-exposed applications
Food processing: FDA-compliant materials with washdown compatibility
Mining operations: Fire-resistant, antistatic grades where required

Metal plates, hooks, or lacing strips that secure to each belt end. Strip width matches belt width; quantity varies by system and belt length.
A pin component that joins the two fastener strips together, allowing the belt to flex around pulleys. Pin diameter and length are specified by the fastener system.
Bolts: High-tensile bolts for bolt solid plate systems (piloted or standard head)
Rivets: Self-setting rivets for rivet systems (collated or individual)
Staples: Pre-inserted staples for staple systems
Screws: Self-drilling, self-tapping screws for Super-Screw systems
Retaining washers distribute fastener load and prevent pull-through on thin belts. Washer packs are included with bolt and rivet systems.
