Idlers

Belt width determines idler roll length. Standard widths include 18, 24, 30, 36, 42, 48, 60, 72, 84, and 96 inches.

Return idlers support the empty belt on the bottom run. Determine if you need flat return idlers, V-return idlers, or self-aligning return idlers.

Calculate the required CEMA rating (B, C, D, E, or F) based on belt width, belt speed, and conveyor length.

Most designs use 8–10 foot spacing for return idlers, adjusted for belt tension, width, and load characteristics. Heavier belts or higher tensions may require closer spacing.

Note whether your existing return idlers use standard drop brackets or channel inset mounting.

Match bearing type and seal configuration to your operating environment. Specify optimized bearings for wet environments, dry and dusty applications, overland conveyors, or dredging and fines removal.

Standard steel rolls suit most applications. Specify rubber disc, spiral, or urethane rolls for sticky materials, carryback issues, or demanding service.
