and extend performance.
Polyurethane has different performance characteristics than rubber.
Wear life: Urethane lasts at least 3X longer than steel or rubber return idlers in comparable material handling applications. Superior wear resistance reduces replacement frequency and maintenance downtime.
Chemical resistance: Polyurethane resists many chemicals that degrade rubber, including oils, solvents, and certain acids.
Abrasion resistance: Urethane is more abrasion-resistant than rubber. This property extends service life in aggregate, mining, recycling, and other harsh applications.
Surface properties: Polyurethane provides a non-stick surface that actively sheds sticky wet material and prevents material buildup. Rubber generates friction that can trap certain materials on the roll surface, leading to carryback issues and belt mistracking.

Choose urethane return idlers when material shedding properties and extended service life justify the higher initial cost compared to rubber or steel return idlers.
Sticky materials
Abrasive materials
Severe carryback
High-wear application
Enhanced material shedding
Superior belt protection
In most cases, you can provide the brand and part number of the urethane return idler you're replacing to get a match. If that's not an option, follow these steps to identify the right Urethane return idler for your conveyor:
When in doubt, contact Fluent with photos of your existing idlers, belt width, and application details. Our engineering team can verify specifications and recommend a Urethane return idler configuration for your conveyor system.

Fluent urethane return idlers contain industry-leading seals on all CEMA configurations.

Reinforced barriers for crushing, screening, and dusty aggregate handling
We supply preconfigured idler units with your chosen seal.
Combine multiple cleaning methods to create a complete belt cleaning system.

Gapped steel rods create vibration and allow material to fall through openings. The hollow center prevents caking between bars.
Remove bulk material at the head pulley before it reaches the return run. Primary scrapers at the discharge point prevent most carryback.
Fluent manufactures belt conveyor systems that rely on specific idlers for reliable operation. We supply all replacement urethane return idlers needed to support these conveyor types:
We provide ongoing support with replacement idlers, technical guidance, and maintenance recommendations to keep your systems running efficiently.

Fluent designs and builds industrial conveyors. When you purchase urethane idlers from Fluent, you're working with engineers who understand idler spacing, carryback, belt loading, and CEMA specifications because we deal with them in our conveyor designs every day.
Whether you need replacement parts for existing equipment or urethane return idler specifications for a new custom conveyor, our team provides technical guidance grounded in real-world conveyor applications.
