NEMA 4 ratings make these enclosures suitable for outdoor installations, washdown areas, and facilities with exposure to water spray and windblown debris.
Unlike NEMA 12 enclosures, NEMA 4 construction includes gasket seals, corrosion-resistant materials, and a weather-tight design to withstand water spray and the extreme conditions found in recycling facilities, aggregate operations, and other harsh environments.
Specifications vary by product, but our NEMA 12 mushroom head E-stops typically include:

Install NEMA 4 E-stops at these locations for enhanced protection against weather, dust, and chemicals:
Space NEMA 4 E-stops at intervals not exceeding 100 feet along conveyor runs in restricted access areas per ASME B20.1 guidelines. Outdoor radial stacker conveyors require weather-resistant E-stops at the pivot mechanism and along the boom. Wash plant conveyors require NEMA 4 protection throughout areas subject to water spray.
NEMA 4 emergency stops integrate with multiple conveyor subsystems to execute safe, controlled shutdowns. The weather-sealed design protects control circuits while maintaining reliable emergency stop functionality in harsh conditions.
E-stops interrupt power through safety relay circuits, immediately de-energizing motors to stop belt movement. The emergency stop function overrides VFD commands and removes voltage from motor starters.

Industrial conveyors must comply with multiple safety standards governing E-stop placement, testing, and operation. Understand these requirements to meet regulatory obligations and pass safety inspections.
Testing and maintenance provide reliable emergency protection and regulatory compliance. The following protocols should be combined with manufacturer and regulatory agency requirements and recommendations.
Defective E-stops endanger employees and violate safety regulations.
Fluent supplies replacement NEMA 4 E-stops for all of our conveyors. Our engineering team can recommend E-stop configurations, placement, and spacing for your outdoor or harsh operating environment.
E-stops are available for these Fluent conveyor types:
